The Silver Season

In her book Seasonal Expectations, Katherine Grace Endicott calls this season in Northern California the "Silver Season." The photo above, taken from my front deck this morning, will tell you why. Soon the silver will end and the heavy winter rains, interspersed with golden sunny days, will begin. Once again the magnolias will bloom incredibly early (some have started already), surprising us: "It can't be spring already!" And of course it is not.

Coming up very soon—the winter solstice. More about that later.
