Barbara and I saw the new Pixar animated film The Incredibles this evening. It looked like it was going to be strictly for kids, but I was persuaded to see it by an endorsement in Virginia Postrel's blog. Cool movie!
The highlights:
a humorous send-up of superheroes which catered nevertheless to the need for superheroes in all of us (or at least those of us, like me, who need superheroes)
social satire in which the superheroes get sued and are forced to retire by the mediocre public who can't stand too much excellence
a moving series of scenes in which a typical American family rallies to save each other (and defeat the villian) while unleasing their long-suppressed individual talents
a breathstopping sequence of action scenes taking place almost too fast to comprehend: state-of-the-art computer animation at its best
Caution: old people such as I liked it, but OLD old people might find it too fast and too edgy.—JDL
